Project Manager

Location: Birmingham, AL (with possible travel to project sites in AL, TN & VA)

Reports To: President / Project Manager

Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Project Manager oversees commercial construction projects from pre-construction through close-out, ensuring successful delivery in terms of schedule, budget, quality, and safety. This role requires strong leadership, coordination across multiple trades, and frequent on-site presence.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple stakeholders and moving parts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of commercial construction projects, from pre-construction planning through project close-out
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and inspectors to ensure project milestones are met
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, and engineers
  • Lead project meetings, including owner, architect, and subcontractor meetings
  • Review and manage contracts, drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance
  • Identify potential risks and resolve issues proactively to minimize delays and cost impacts
  • Ensure projects comply with contract documents, building codes, and safety regulations

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, and scheduling
  • Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and project stakeholders
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera, or similar)
  • Ability to work both on-site and in an office environment
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Experience

  • Experience managing projects such as retail, office, industrial, healthcare, or mixed-use developments
  • Background in pre-construction, estimating, or scheduling

Intern

Position Summary

KFP Construction offers a hands-on, immersive internship where students gain exposure to all facets of commercial construction, from assisting with pre-construction bid preparation and estimations to on-site operations and project closeout job. The intern will rotate between office and job site responsibilities where they will assist team members in planning, coordination, documentation, and on-site tasks — gaining real world exposure to how projects are planned, managed built and delivered. Rather than being limited to a single function, the intern will get to experience every phase of the construction process.

The internship is intentionally designed to be flexible in customizable, allowing students to explore the areas of construction that best align with their interests, strengths, and career goals – giving you real experience where it matters most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participating in pre-construction meetings, estimations, and bid preparation
  • Assist project teams in organizing project documentation, permits, schedules, and submittals
  • Support coordination between office staff, field crews, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Conduct site visits to observe construction progress, safety practices, and quality control
  • Take part in daily planning meetings and assist in tracking tasks to completion
  • Support general administrative tasks related to ongoing projects
  • Learn and adhere to company safety standards and job site protocols
  • Learning how a privately-owned construction business operates – including client, relationships, budgeting, and decision-making

Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing a degree in Construction Management Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
  • Strong interest in construction processes and project management
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable with field site visits and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Shows initiative and A strong desire to seek out learning opportunities to gain real-world experience
